Traditional Commedia Dell’Arte with a New Twist

La Catena D’Oro (The Golden Chain)

is a new play in English and Italian by Penny Culliford at Theatro Technis, London. It is a modern twist on Commedia dell’Arte, an early form of Italian theatre which inspired Punch and Judy, pantomime and Charlie Chaplin, Norman Wisdom and circus clowns, Shakespeare’s fools and even Del Boy falling through the bar.

With easily recognisable characters, slapstick fun and romance, all the family will be delighted as poor accountant Fabio falls in love when he hears beautiful Isabella singing, proving that love is not only blind, but deaf too’. Isabella’s devious servant, Columbina, schemes to bring them together, but without a fortune, Fabio stands no chance. Isabella is promised to Arturo, the rich, mean and corrupt town mayor. Columbina hatches a plot to unite the lovers. A misunderstanding with a letter causes more confusion between Fabio’s servant, Pedrolino and Columbina. Mayhem ensues but with inspiration from a golden chain, Columbina saves the day.

Produced by Tricolore Theatre Company, the play has a professional cast, including

La Catena D’Oro (The Golden Chain) Comunicato Stampa 03/05/2012
